Here at First Act, it’s our mission to encourage every student who walks through our doors to be their unique selves. Everyone brings something important to the table, and by being our truest selves, we create a culture of belonging. In 1 Corinthians 12:27, Paul says, “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” Everyone has different gifts and talents, and we are called to come together to combine those gifts in community.
Our 2025-2026 season reflects this principle, filled with shows that showcase individuality and integrity. With six mainstage musicals and two black boxes, our season holds promise for all of our students and fun for the whole family! The first show in our 2025-2026 season is Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical. Based on the best-selling book series by Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical follows Greg Heffley’s journey through middle school. Greg is determined to be popular at any cost, even if it means leaving his friends in the dust. Cue hilarious antics, incredible songs, and, you guessed it, avoiding the dreaded Cheese Touch. Along the way, Greg learns important lessons about the importance of being true to yourself and your friends. Join us this fall for Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical, making its First Act debut!
Up next is Urinetown: The Musical! You might be thinking, is it really spelled that way? And the answer is, yes, yes it is! Set in a city experiencing a devastating 20-year drought, everyone must pay to use public toilets due to the ban on private ones. With only one company monopolizing these public facilities, greed and chaos rule. However, one lowly employee, Bobby Strong, leads a revolution to lead the citizens to freedom, no matter the cost! Urinetown is a hilarious satirical musical that shows us that it only takes one voice to speak up for the good of others.
Our first Black Box Production of the 2025-2026 season is the play, The Dining Room. Set in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household where families gather for meals and special occasions, The Dining Room is comprised of a group of interrelated scenes that highlight relationships in different family dynamics. Each scene introduces a new set of people and events as individual actors take on several roles. The stories work through conflict and find resolutions, deftly interweaving and giving us a glimpse into the lives of each family.
She’s practically perfect! Based on the classic Walt Disney Film and the books by P.L. Travers, Mary Poppins: The Broadway Musical follows the Banks family, their new nanny, and her friend Bert. Full of the songs you know and love, Mary Poppins reminds us that we can always learn a new lesson or two. It is Mary’s unique perspective that opens the eyes of Jane and Michael to the wonders of the world, and the eyes of Mr. Banks to his family, who just want to be loved by him. Join us this winter to be part of the timeless fun and magic!
Set against the backdrop of World War II in London, Alice and her friend, Alfred, take shelter in an underground tube station. To distract themselves from the chaos around them, they escape into Alice’s favorite story and go “Down the Hole” to Wonderland, because she knows the story of Alice in Wonderland by heart. As it is with every Alice in Wonderland story, Alice and Alfred meet quirky characters like the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and the Queen of Hearts. Alice by Heart explores the unique power of imagination to help us cope with loss and chaos. We are excited to be presenting this title for the very first time!
Our second Black Box production of the year is Fugitive Songs – A Song Cycle, a journey across America spotlighting people on the run. Fugitive Songs has a contemporary folk score written by Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen (Tuck Everlasting, Amelie) that features a diverse range of voice types. From a disgruntled Subway sandwich employee, a jilted ex-cheerleader, and a trio biking across Kansas, these characters all remind us that sometimes, the best option is to find the courage to find something new.
“A person’s a person no matter how small!” Returning to the First Act stage this spring, Seussical is a deservedly beloved show that showcases all of your favorite Dr. Seuss stories and characters. When Horton the Elephant hears the Whos call out for help from their tiny planet, he vows to keep them safe at all costs. Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, but, ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community emerge triumphant. Seussical is the perfect youth theater show, with opportunities abounding for students of all ages!
Featuring the most unique family of all time, The Addams Family is a musical adaptation featuring the characters you know and love. Wednesday Addams has fallen in love, and she’s ready to leave the nest. How will the outside world respond to her unique personality? Will her family accept the boy she loves? As we know, when you stick to what makes you stand out, things will work out, even if your family is obsessed with death!
