“I think probably one of my favorite things about music directing is seeing the students progress from the very first rehearsal until like you know the beginning of show week basically just to see how far they come. And also there’s always that moment whenever we do a
show that like we’re something that is usually really challenging, a lot of times it’s harmonies or things like that, where you know that it’s so
challenging and so hard, but that the student has taken ownership of it and they’ve worked really hard, and then that moment when it finally clicks into place, and they have that moment of like, “Oh my gosh, this sounds so cool, and I can do it!””
“So I feel like there’s always some moment like that that always happens within the process that I get really excited about to see how excited
that they get about their progress and just how amazing it sounds.”
“You know, it’s fun to see your kids do anything that they love, but then also when it coincides with something that you really love it’s just the best.”
“One of the things that I really love about First Act is getting to see the older kids mentor and, you know, just include the younger kids. I know
how much it means for those younger kids to feel just like loved and accepted and a part of this like community even though they are the smallest and the youngest. And Jack especially has had a few shows where he’s had that high schooler who has really just kind of taken him under his wing. And it’s just so lovely to see.”
