Josie: “So Halie was about six years old, and the local organization that used to be called the Down Syndrome Guild, it’s now Down Syndrome Innovations, they had a monthly newsletter that had a little article that said CYT has come to town and was inviting families with disabilities into their program. That was very exciting for us because Halie had been performing at home, watching Barney, and learning.
Halie: “I did watch that when I was real little, yeah yes I did.”
Josie: “Well, she did classes, she did every class, we never missed a session, we were hooked! The first show she auditioned for at 8 was Scrooge.”
Halie: “I love to sing and dance. I do dance. My favorite show was, I was in Aida with my sister.”
Josie: “As it started to grow and more families were coming in, by then I was on staff, so we just talked about maybe, you know, coming up with a more of a structured program for how we accommodate families. I was just praying about it, and the name HEART came to me from God, and so that’s what we decided to do.”
“I know that the door is going to stay open, and just watching you know, you guys as the creative team create more opportunities for the families because everybody’s here to be part of it and they grow no matter what, so every opportunity is a chance for all kids, even kids with disabilities, to grow so that they can live their lives better.”
