Class Policies

Registration Information

Registration for each First Act semester class session is done through your First Act account. To set up a First Act account, please click the Login button in the upper righthand corner and follow the prompts. Once account set-up is completed, please see registration within your account or by visiting the Current Classes page.

Classes and teachers are subject to change. When a class fills, a waiting list will be kept and students enrolled in the order that a registration was received if an opening becomes available.

For detailed class policies including dance attire requirements, see the sections below.

Discount Information

Our Early Bird will run from July 5th-July 31st. Registrations during this period will receive $10 off per class.

Discounts for Acting/Vocal Studios are as follows: Multi-class – $10 off per additional class; Sibling – $10 off per additional student

Discounts for Dance Studio are as follows: 2 dance classes – $40 off total; 3 dance classes – $90 off total; 4 dance classes – $150 off total. The multiple class dance discount is per person; it cannot be used as a sibling discount. You will need to call the First Act office (913-681-3318) for your discount voucher if taking more than one dance class. Note: Because we are offering a larger tiered discount for dance, this discount may not be used alongside the Early Bird Discount. The Early Bird Discount will still apply for those taking single dance classes.

While we think our tuition is a great value, we understand that it can be a daunting amount, especially for families that have multiple children in the program. We do not want to prohibit anyone from being part of a First Act. If you would like to discuss special arrangements/payment plan options, please contact the First Act office at (913) 681-3318.

General Class Policies

These policies apply to all three First Act studios. If you have questions, please reach out to educationdirector@firstactkc.org or call the office at 913-681-3318.

COVID Guidelines

It is recommended that persons exposed to or diagnosed with COVID 19 follow the current CDC guidelines, found HERE.

We recognize that COVID remains a limited risk in our community and ask for respect for those continuing to mask out of safety concerns. We will continue to monitor, adapt, and communicate as things develop.  As guidelines change, we will update our policies. This may include a change in instruction method. If a change is made, there will be no credit, refund, or pro-rate tuition given.

Attendance Policy

If your student will miss class, email educationdirector@firstactkc.org or call the office at 913-681-3318. If your student will miss a dance class email dancedirector@firstactkc.org. If your child is ill, keep them home. There are no refunds for missed classes.

Every student will complete a class conflict form before the first class indicating their excused absences. However, should a child’s attendance in classes become an issue, students may be removed from end-of-the-session class performances or in extreme cases removed from the class entirely. Special consideration may be granted regarding absences due to illness, family emergency, and/or unforeseen school functions. After two unexcused absences, the family will be notified by the Education Director, Dance Studio Director, or Class Coordinator.
Students enrolled in a leveled class may have to repeat that level or may have the opportunity to receive private instruction from a First Act instructor (at the cost of the family) to catch up before the next session of classes.

Refund Policy

You may drop a class through the first week of the class session and receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee. After the conclusion of the first class week, no refunds will be given.

Auditioning for a Musical Production/Play

If you are enrolled in First Act Theatre Arts classes (and are age 8-18), you are automatically eligible to audition for that session’s productions. Students enrolled in either a Fall or Spring Studio Class are eligible to use that registration to cover Winter production registration requirements. If you are not enrolled in classes, you will need to pay a non-refundable deposit of $255 to be eligible to audition.

Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of inclement weather and/or poor road conditions, classes/rehearsals may be canceled for the safety of our students. Many times the weather may be dangerous in the mornings, but by class/rehearsal time, road conditions are fine. A decision will be made at least 2 hours before the start of the event regarding any cancellation of activities. If class/rehearsal is canceled for any reason, an email will be sent to all participants. For after-school timed events, updates can also be found on First Act’s website: www.firstactkc.org, as well as on our Facebook and Instagram pages. We always encourage checking our website for the most up-to-date cancellation information.

PLEASE NOTE: First Act Theatre Arts does not make up classes nor do we credit, refund, or pro-rate tuition for classes canceled due to inclement weather.
