What age does my student need to be to attend Theater Classes?
We offer a variety of theater classes for ages 2-18!
What happens at theater class?
First and foremost, we have a ton of fun at theater classes!
Students develop their acting, singing, and dancing skills in classes with experienced professionals.
We have beginner level classes for students of all ages as well as intermediate and advanced classes for our older students.
We also have options for students to explore the tech side of theater through our Apprenticeship Program.
What if my child doesn’t know anyone?
We encourage a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere where kids will meet new friends. With plenty of new faces and small class sizes, students quickly feel like they belong and have the opportunity to make friends right away.
Does my child need to be enrolled in a class to be in a show?
We highly encourage students in our shows to be enrolled in one of our many class offerings. We offer semester classes, private lessons, and more! If our class options do not work, you will be asked to pay the “Production Opt-Out Fee” along with your production fee.
What is the production Opt Out Fee?
The Opt Out is a service that we offer for the students that cannot commit to a class but still want to audition for one of our productions. You will register for the Opt Out in your First Act family account like other classes. The Opt Out is offered for Fall, Winter, and Spring session.
What is the HEART Production Package?
The HEART Production Package is an option for our students with disabilities in the HEART Program. This class is perfect for students that may find traditional classroom environments challenging or have a hard time making it to regular scheduled classes. This package is offered each Fall, Winter, and Spring session.
What is Daytime Academy?
Our Daytime Academy classes are held for 10-week sessions in the Fall and Spring of each year. These classes are geared towards homeschooled, virtual, or alternative learning students ages 5-14.
Fall 2026 Daytime Academy students will put together a production of Frozen KIDS. This class will have an end of the session performance for friends and family on the last day of class.
What is Dance Placement?
Dance Placement is an opportunity for our dance teachers to evaluate students’ abilities to accurately place them in a leveled dance class. This takes place at the end of each school year, usually in late May. If placement has passed and your student is interested in taking a higher level dance class, contact Dance Director Liz Watkins at liz@firstactkc.org.

Our classes are currently offered at two Overland Park locations.

Semester Schedule:
Fall Semester: August – November
Spring Semester: January – April
Do you offer any discounts for classes?
We’re excited to offer our Student Multiple Class Discount
2 Classes – $50 Off
3 Classes – $75 Off
4+ Classes – $100 Off
Daytime Academy and Private Acting and Vocal Lessons are excluded from this discount. Discounts will be automatically applied when you enroll online.
While we think our tuition is a great value, we understand that it can be a daunting amount, especially for families that have multiple children in the program. Can I apply for a scholarship for classes?

What is your cancellation/refund policy?
You may drop a class through the first week of the class session and receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee. After the conclusion of the first class week, no refunds will be given.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer any credits/refunds/make-ups/pro-rated fees for missed days of class.
Private Lessons can be made up at the instructor’s discretion.
Do you have to be a Christian to come to First Act?
No. First Act Theatre Arts holds to Christian values of family, community, leadership, and positive encouragement. We welcome all kids of varying faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs.
What if my child has a disability?
First Act Theatre Arts openly welcomes children with disabilities. Further, First Act proudly offers our HEART program (Helping to Encourage Awareness and Recognition in Theatre). Please let us know what we can do to help! Before classes begin, you will want to fill out the HEART application and support form. First Act will work with you to assist your child. Please give us as much information as possible so we can make your child’s experience successful.
