The children and young adults in the First Act Musical Theatre Troupe will work with experienced vocal coaches, acting coaches and choreographers to hone their skills in singing, dancing, and acting, preparing for special events and performances.This group is open to students ages 10-18 and will require an audition for acceptance into the troupe. All students will need to prepare a 60-second musical theatre vocal selection and will participate in a group dance audition.
The First Act Dance Company is a select group of dancers who represent the First Act Theatre Arts Dance Studio out in the community and at specialized dance performances. Students audition for the group during the fall semester. Rehearsals are held in the winter, and the group begins performing during the spring semester.
Students should come dressed and prepared to dance.
Calling all student playwrights, directors, and actors for 24 hours of theatre making magic! Local writers, directors, and actors have 24 hours to bring all new scripts to life - from writing to final performance! On Thursday evening at 6:00pm playwrights will be given a prompt for a play. Directors and actors arrive the next morning for casting and begin rehearsals of the brand new 10-minute plays . At 7:00pm on Friday, they share their world-premiere performance of these scripts with our First Act Theatre Arts audience.
The First Act Improv Troupe invites all area Improv troupes for 2 days full of fun and competition. Teams of 5 will compete in 3 rounds of Comedy Sport style competition (think "Who's Line is it Anyways") for a panel of professional KC area judges. Teams will earn points over the three rounds and the team with the most points wins! The team that comes out on top will receive a sweet trophy and bragging rights for a year. Students ages 12 through 18 can audition in October to be a part of First Act’s Improv Troupe. Registration for the 1st annual KC Improv Tournament will open early December for Troupes from other schools, community groups, or theatre companies.
