High School Musical Jr. Director's Letter

First Act’s Middle School Overnight Camp is always my favorite week of the summer. When I heard that High School Musical Jr. was our show this year, somehow my excitement for this week grew exponentially. My first camp experience with First Act was a High School Musical summer camp when I was five years old, and I cannot comprehend that I am now directing the musical with the same organization!

High School Musical Jr. Artistic Team

Disney Channel and High School Musical were defining parts of my childhood. I remember singing the songs and doing Kenny Ortega’s iconic “We’re All in This Together” choreography in my living room as my parents pretended that they weren’t tired of hearing the same songs over and over again. It has been such a joy to see this next generation loving this musical and still feeling connected to the story 20 years after its original release. (Good luck to all of the parents whose kids come back from camp and serenade you as I did to my parents in the early 2000s!)

As you are watching this production of High School Musical Jr., allow yourself to be in awe that these young students learned an entire show in just a few short days. They have poured (literal) blood, sweat, and tears into this show over this week, and we cannot wait to share it with you! I hope you leave this production with a song stuck in your head and a reminder NOT to stick to the status quo, but instead share your unique personality and talents with the world because we’re all in this together!

Nine to Five Director’s Letter

Before the 9 to 5 movie and musical we know and love, there was a movement that inspired both. 9to5 is an organization created in 1973 by clerical workers to respond to the inequities, unfairness, and outright harassment and discrimination they were experiencing in the workplace. These courageous, tenacious, and fierce women organized and banded together to advocate for themselves and for a better future for working women. 9to5 still exists today, fighting every day for equal wages, paid family leave, and a harassment-free workplace. Their work continues to advance racial and gender justice through community-led advocacy as they seek widespread, long-lasting change.

Almost, Maine Director’s Letter

Almost, Maine is a beautiful depiction of human connection. We all hope for connection and love throughout our lives - people who understand us, accept us for all of our faults, know us completely. In our journey to find it, we risk heartbreak, we fall in love, we make mistakes, we grow apart, we find each other again, we move on, and the list goes on.
