First Act offers semi-private and private lessons in acting and voice for ages 10-18 in the Kansas City Area. These KC metro acting lessons and voice lessons in Overland Park help students develop acting and singing skills in a one-on-one environment.
The year wraps up with an exciting recital where students will perform for family and friends on April 18, 2027.
NOTE: Private Acting and Vocal Lessons are for students who are ready to expand their skills and already have basic technique down. We recommend that students take one to two group classes before beginning private lessons. If you’re just beginning your theater journey, we recommend the Semi-Private Lessons or our other Acting and Vocal Classes.

Learn, create, and shine in a supportive, small-group setting! With 4-6 students every other week, this class gives each actor personalized coaching while exploring scene work, improv, and character development. Students will advance as performers, strengthen stage presence, and grow their confidence—all while enjoying the collaborative energy of a small ensemble. Semi-private lessons provide focused skill-building and individual attention, making them a perfect bridge between private lessons and larger group classes.
Acting Semi Private Lesson Dates: 8/27, 9/10, 9/24, 10/8, 10/22, 11/5, 11/19
Acting Semi Private Lesson Times: Ages 10-14 (7:00-8:00pm) // Ages 15-18 (6:00-7:00pm)
Sing, grow, and shine in a supportive, small-group setting! With 4-6 students meeting every other week, this class provides personalized vocal coaching while fostering the encouragement and camaraderie of a small ensemble. Students will develop healthy vocal technique, improve pitch and tone, expand their vocal range, and build confidence as singers. Through individual and group singing opportunities, performers will strengthen their musical skills while receiving focused instruction tailored to their goals. Semi-private lessons offer the perfect balance of individualized attention and collaborative learning, making them an excellent bridge between private lessons and larger group classes.
Vocal Semi Private Lesson Dates: 8/20, 9/3, 9/17, 10/1, 10/15, 10/
Vocal Semi Private Lesson Times:Ages 10-14 (7:00-8:00pm) // Ages 15-18 (6:00-7:00pm)
Each student will take private lessons over a 14-week semester, with a total of 6 hours of private acting instruction, that may be broken down into 30 or 60-minute sessions. Perfect for students with busy schedules or who wish to advance their techniques!

We offer private and semi private acting and vocal lessons for students ages 10-18.
What happens in an acting lesson?
In an Acting Lesson, students meet with a skilled instructor to hone their acting skills. Teachers assign materials such as monologues for students to learn. As students learn these materials in lessons, instructors give individualized feedback to help the student learn and grow. First Act has many talented instructors that are able to help students reach their full potential on stage!
Individualized training allows students to move at their own pace, whether they are a beginner or have been acting for years. Students can inquire about specific techniques that are interesting to them instead of sticking to a class curriculum. Throughout the semester, students and instructors can shift their focus to what feels necessary and relevant for the student.
Also, students will have an opportunity to showcase their hard work at our end of year recital in the spring!

As students learn these materials in lessons, instructors give individualized feedback to help the student learn and grow. What should I do if I need to cancel a lesson?
In the event of a need for cancellation, students should contact their teacher via their preferred communication method. If the teacher cannot be reached, contact Vocal Studio Director, Margaret Jordahl at margaret@firstactkc.org for Voice Lessons or Acting Studio Director Molly Stasieluk at molly@firstactkc.org for Acting Lessons. Unless it is in the case of an emergency (illness, family emergency, etc.), 24 hour notice must be given to be considered for a makeup lesson. All makeup lessons must be complete by the end of the semester.
No refunds will be given for cancellations.
What if my child doesn’t know anyone?
We encourage a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere where kids will meet new friends. With plenty of new faces and small class sizes, students quickly feel like they belong and have the opportunity to make friends right away.

Daytime Academy and Private Acting and Vocal Lessons are excluded from this discount. Discounts will be automatically applied when you enroll online.
While we think our tuition is a great value, we understand that it can be a daunting amount, especially for families that have multiple children in the program. Can I apply for a scholarship for classes?

What is your cancellation/refund policy?
You may drop a class through the first week of the class session and receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee. After the conclusion of the first class week, no refunds will be given.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer any credits/refunds/make-ups/pro-rated fees for missed days of classes.
Do you have to be a Christian to come to First Act?
No. First Act Theatre Arts holds to Christian values of family, community, leadership, and positive encouragement. We welcome all kids of varying faiths, backgrounds, and beliefs.
What if my child has a disability?
First Act Theatre Arts openly welcomes children with disabilities. Further, First Act proudly offers our HEART program (Helping to Encourage Awareness and Recognition in Theatre). Please let us know what we can do to help! Before classes begin, you will want to fill out the HEART application and support form. First Act will work with you to assist your child. Please give us as much information as possible so we can make your child’s experience successful.
