Welcome to the magical world of Seussical the Musical!
Dr. Seuss stories have been delighting us since 1937 with their catchy rhyme schemes and unique illustrations. I know I have memories of my parents reading Dr. Seuss books to me over and over again because I couldn’t get enough! And all the while, underneath the surface, there were deeper lessons to be learned from these stories.
“A person’s a person no matter how small.”
This is the resounding message of Seussical. Obviously, the Whos are literally, on a speck of dust, making them physically teeny tiny. BUT, if we open our minds just a little bit more, maybe “small” can mean something else. Maybe it can mean young. Maybe it means somebody that lives far away from us or that lives differently than we do. People seem “small” to us when they exist outside of our worldview, and with the world being chaotic as ever, it can be hard to find the energy to care. But Seussical pushes us to remember that every person has inherent dignity that cannot be disregarded.
I’ve watched this cast live this message throughout this show process. From our graduating seniors all the way to our youngest cast members, they have shown kindness and care to one another. They encourage each other and build one another up. Our veteran students show our new students the ropes, and our younger students remind our older students to keep it fun. This community is an incredible thing to witness, and they embody the message they’re delivering.
I want to thank everyone who has made this production of Seussical possible. To this incredible team, thank you for your dedication, expertise, and joy. I am thanking my lucky stars every day to be able to work among friends, what a gift! To our students, thank you for bringing your energy and enthusiasm to every rehearsal and making this process so fun. And thank you most of all to our parent volunteers – you are the beating heart of this organization, and I am constantly in awe of your talents. And to Dave and Becky, thank you for your 17 years of service. I love y’all more than words can say.
Thank YOU for coming to the theater today and supporting the next generation of young artists. Your support means the world to these kids.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy Seussical the Musical!
