Studies show that participation in the arts, whether it’s visual or performing arts, increases confidence in kids. By taking them to a show, you might ignite their spark, and they might want to join us on stage! There are countless stories of students who go to see shows like Mary Poppins, and walk out of the theater wanting to tap dance like Bert, sing like Mary, or laugh like Uncle Albert!
From colorful costumes to elaborate sets, theater inspires so many different creative outlets. Yes, students may be inspired to perform on stage after going on a theater field trip! But they might be just as inspired by the craftsmanship that brings these stories to life. In the world of Seussical, students will see Dr. Seuss’s worlds go from page to stage! When kids see how a costumer brings the Cat in the Hat to life, they could be inspired to come up with their own version! Or they could come up with their own set design for the Jungle of Nool!
Lastly, theater sparks deep discussions among students about what they witness on stage. In Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Greg Heffley does a lot of learning about the importance of true friendship. The mistakes he makes throughout the story are incredibly relatable to kids, and by asking a simple follow up question like, “What makes a good friend?” after the show, you can continue the learning process outside the theater.
