This class will explore all the elements that make up musical theatre. Students will learn the basics of acting, singing, and movement as well as how to work together in a creative environment. This winter, students will hop across the pond and learn songs from Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins Returns, and Matilda. This class is the perfect introduction to theatre and the performing arts for young students.

If you love to sing, join others who share the same passion and participate in this fun, 90-minute long class. Your voice will bloom as you learn healthy vocal habits while in a group setting, but also with individual attention. The students will work with exciting songs over the course of each semester. Each session will focus on a different style or genre of music and vocal styling, thus this course can be repeated many times!

This class will build upon individual acting techniques and allow students to continue to build their acting skills in a group dynamic. Students will work with ensemble building games, script analysis, and scene study. Students will learn how to work with other actors to build authentic relationships on stage. The material will change each session and different styles and genres of theatrical works will be used each session. This class can be repeated multiple times. The winter 2023/24 session will focus on Contemporary Dramatic text.

HEART Production Package

First Act Theatre Arts is pleased to offer an exclusive rate for students currently enrolled in the HEART program. We believe that being part of a production is an integral part of building lifelong skills and want to encourage participation consistently through the year. Students enrolled in the HEART program will be able to choose the “HEART Production Package” option at a rate of $275. This will enable a student in the HEART program to participate in a production without signing up for a class. Classes remain as a full inclusion option for all students and are encouraged as a means of continued growth in the performing arts.

The HEART Production Package will be presented as an option for each session. Selection of one of these packages will let us know that your student is planning on auditioning for one of the respective shows but will not be taking a class.  When auditions are completed and your student is cast, you will NOT be charged the extra production fee of $250. If your student is not cast, your fee will be refunded.

New families to the HEART program will need to contact HEART Coordinator, Maggie Miller at maggie@firstactkc.org to determine eligibility for this option.  Scholarships for classes or camps are available for first time families.
