The First Act KC Vocal Studio is excited to offer an opportunity for students to take private voice lessons with one of our highly trained instructors! Each student will take private lessons over a 14-week semester, with a total of 6 hours of private vocal instruction, that may be broken down into 30 or 60-minute sessions. In addition, these students will meet 4 times for 90-minutes at the First Act Studios to have “Studio Hour.” In this time, each student will have the opportunity to perform a lesson piece for the combined studio. After their “Studio Hour” performance, each student will receive feedback and constructive criticism from an instructor other than their normally assigned instructor. This time will allow learning from each other as a group and from multiple instructors. At the end of the semester, each student will perform one of their lesson pieces in a recital.

This class is highly recommended for ages 12-18. If students are just beginning their vocal journey, we highly recommend they take one of trimester season vocal or musical theatre classes.

Vocal Recital will be on April 7th at 4:00 PM. Call Time is 3:00 PM. Location is TBD.

Note: First Act Credits CANNOT be used on Private Studio Classes.

First Act Theatre Arts first priority is to ensure the safety of all students and staff in their interactions with one another.  To that end, the following procedures must be followed when attending private lessons within the instructor’s home:

  • Specific lesson times should be respected. Students should be on time, and should leave immediately once their lesson is done.
  • Students should only enter areas of the teacher’s home that are pertinent to their lessons.
  • If parents choose to stay for the lesson, they are welcome to.
  • All sessions will be audio recorded, stored, and available for review upon request.

In the event of a need for cancellation, students should contact their teacher via their preferred communication method.  If the teacher cannot be reached, contact Vocal Studio Director, Hillary Talken at hillary@firstactkc.org for Voice Lessons or Acting Studio Director Andrew & Jana Milbourn at jana@firstactkc.org.  Unless it is in the case of an emergency (illness, family emergency, etc.), 24 hour notice must be given to be considered for a makeup lesson. All makeup lessons must be complete by April 30, 2024.

No refunds will be given for cancellations.

Pre-Professional Training Track

At First Act Theatre Arts we acknowledge that some students are seeking performing arts training with the mindset that this will be a career path for them. Gearing up for the competitive college audition process and the world of professional performing arts takes a lot of preparation and training during the high school years. In an effort to better serve those students we have created a few training guides to help you select your courses each session. If you have any question about the training guides or wish to speak further with a professional please email Education Director Michelle Evans.
